can't shake the satisfaction in having left my home, never looking back,
travelling in one direction, and finding myself coming back to Boulder. It's
now that I realize that I've done it: I've circled the globe!

Anthropology gave me a taste for the great diversity (and simultaneously the great similarities) to be discovered out there in the world. But it also affirmed the notion that you really have to get out there (wherever you are) and be part of it to fully appreciate this little planet of ours.
The world is no longer just a travel fantasy, an academic subject, or an intangible concept for me. It's an experience. It's my experience. This is not to say, of course, that I've "been there; done that" and am ready to curl up and sleep off the rest of history. But now that I've seen the lands where King Arthur lived, felt India beneath my feet, and been swimming in the South China Sea; now that I've refreshed that traveler's appreciation for everything around me, I'm excited to get back home and find my own place here.
In a way, it's very relieving to have burned every single vacation hour I had. I'm actually in negative vacation time at work, and I couldn't be happier. Of course there's the satisfaction of having spent my vacation time in the best way I could imagine. But there's also the joy of having a spring and summer in a place I love: Colorado. The U.S.A.. Home.
So look for me on the bike paths, the ski slopes, and the waterski lakes. I'll be writing in my journal; I'll be taking pictures. Find me in a corner of a bar, painting pictures. See me on my front porch, watching the trees grow and the mountains loom.
I'll be meeting and conversing with the people of this and other lands. I'll be trying strange foods and seeing new sites. Whether I'm a stone's throw from home or continents away, I'll forever be a tourist on this planet and a student of its people. Here's hoping you are too.
