Events & Activities: Steamboat entertains locals and visitors year-round with a huge variety
of lively events. Winter: from the famous winter carnival (February)
to free concerts, parades, firework shows, and competitions, there's plenty
to do on and off the mountain. Summer: awesome mountain biking, wine & food fests, hot-air
balloon rodeos, epic fishing, horseback adventures, tubing the river,
farmers' markets, pro rodeos, wah hoo! Click here for the local paper's daily event listing and here for bigger "signature" events.
Old Town Hot Springs: Newly remodeled with natural soaking pools, an Olympic-sized lap pool, waterslides, fitness equipment, classes, and massage. Bring quarters (or get change at the front desk) for lockers ($0.25-$0.50); bring towels from my closet by the front door.
Strawberry Park Hot Springs: A must-see attraction totally unique to Steamboat. In a gorgeous natural setting, about 20-minute's drive or shuttle ride away.
City Market, Safeway, Mal-Wart, and other shops/services are just
down the hill
There is no shortage of unique shopping experiences on the mountain,
in town, and around... if you're into that.
Snowsports: I chose Steamboat
largely for the town, the surroundings, the culture, and the people; but
there's no doubt the mountain is what it's all about. Visit Steamboat's
official site for details on lift tickets, lessons, mountain guides,
kids' programs, racing, hours, conditions, on-mountain dining, and more.
